This ornament commemorates the 200th anniversary of the White House. It also celebrates the bicentennial of the federal government’s move from Philadelphia to Washington, D.C. The design incorporates two highly detailed white sculptural relief's of the north and south elevations of the White House. Sandstone was used from the original Government Island quarry in Aquia, Virginia, that produced the sandstone for the exterior walls of the White House as was requested by George Washington. The sculptural relief of the north and south facades was created in a mold by mixing the stone, which was crushed to a fine powder, with resin to create a stone-like quality. It is displayed in a 24-carat gold-plated frame.
